چکیده
Abstract Solar disinfection (SODIS) could be a key to providing clean, hygiene water for birthing uses, but the recommended climate zone is limited, microbial indicators are related gastrointestinal illness and not wound infections. SODIS feasibility was investigated remove Escherichia coli from turbid at temperatures less than 50 °C in Lexington, KY. Increasing turbidity 0 200 NTU decreased E. inactivation 5 1 log. With same experimental protocol, more 4-log of Staphylococcus aureus epidermidis (common human-skin microorganisms serious post-partum infections both mother child) achieved different levels with maximum, in-bottle temperature 49.2 after 5.5 h. The thermal bacterial assessed without UV radiation 37 47 °C. Skin bacteria were inactivated completely 9.5 h °C, only 58% removal happened thermo-tolerant coli. These results suggest that application may expanded geographically treat purposes. However, as also capable causing infections, required produce safe by outside latitudes.

OBJECTIVE To investigate the efficacy of the solar water disinfection (SODIS) method for inactivating Cryptosporidium parvum oocysts in turbid waters using 1.5 l polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles under natural sunlight. METHODS All experiments were performed at the Plataforma Solar de Almería, located in the Tabernas Desert (Southern Spain) in July and October 2007. Turbid water sample...
متن کاملClearing muddied waters: Capture of environmental DNA from turbid waters
Understanding the differences in efficiencies of various methods to concentrate, extract, and amplify environmental DNA (eDNA) is vital for best performance of eDNA detection. Aquatic systems vary in characteristics such as turbidity, eDNA concentration, and inhibitor load, thus affecting eDNA capture efficiency. Application of eDNA techniques to the detection of terrestrial invasive or endange...

Over 1.1 billion people in the world lack access to improved drinking water. Diarrheal and other waterborne diseases cause an estimated 2.2 million deaths per year. The Safe Water System (SWS) is a proven household water treatment intervention that reduces diarrheal disease incidence in users in developing countries. Because the SWS recommends the addition of sodium hypochlorite to unfiltered w...
متن کاملPerformance of Landsat TM in ship detection in turbid waters
The visible and near infrared bands of Landsat have limitations for detecting ships in turbid water. The potential of TM middle infrared bands for ship detection has so far not been investigated. This study analyzed the performance of the six Landsat TM visible and infrared bands for detecting dredging ships in the turbid waters of the Poyang Lake, China. A colour composite of principal compone...

This was the second research retreat focused on gender bias in anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries, the first having taken place in Lexington, KY in April 2001. The purpose of this second retreat was to revisit the factors thought to be associated with gender bias in ACL injuries and to update the consensus statement from 2001. The retreat was again cosponsored by Kentucky Sports Medicine...
